grue,

But I don’t wanna secede, though! : (

(I’m in GA, US.)

grue,

Well, of course. There hasn’t been a legitimate question on that point since 1991.

Being fit to be drafted is for the little people. Presidential candidates can just get out of it by claiming to have bone spurs.

grue,

It would be good to add links/citations as well, instead of just quotes. IE: bleepingcomputer.com/…/haier-hits-home-assistant-…

I would suggest creating a documents archive subdirectory and mirroring as well as linking, in case the takedown notices get takedown-notice’d.

Should i host LinguaCafe or are there better alternatives?

Hi, I just noticed the existence of LinguaCafe and i really like the idea. So I searched up their website and saw that they are still in early developement. I’d like to learn italian and that is currently an experimental language. So im wondering if there is a better service avaiable right now....

alternativeto.net/software/duolingo/?license=open…

Of the programs in that list, the only one I’ve heard of before is LibreLingo, and I’m not sure how good or bad it is. (It seems different enough from LinguaCafe that they might be complement each other more than compete.)

grue,

Exactly; for instance, if two people of the same (biological) sex were buried together, it means they were definitely just very good friends.

grue,

Mac OS is actually at version 23 (they restarted the count at 10).

grue,

I stand corrected. I gotta be honest: I used to daily-drive OS X up until about a decade ago, but I haven’t paid much attention to it since then.

grue,

The C3-PO leg is perfect, but I think decapitating R2-D2 is a little extreme just to be an analogue for the lampshade. Maybe a stormtrooper helmet instead?

grue,

Hot take: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home > Star Trek: First Contact

grue,

I know Ferengis are portrayed as non-violent

Even leaving the early-installment weirdness of TNG Ferengi aside, there were always Eliminators like Leck…

grue,

Not an OS expert but if you move it, the computer knows where it goes any can pause and read/writes and utilize RAM for it’s in-use version.

It’s more like it doesn’t actually go anywhere on-disk; only the tag in the filesystem pointing to it changes. I’m pretty sure once the program has an open file handle, it doesn’t care about the path anymore anyway.

grue,

Came looking for the ice cream story and was not disappointed.

Corporations do not have the same goals as government. One seeks to extract maximum profits for the few at the expense of the many, the other seeks to return to the many as much as is feasible in societal good - schools, roads, power, water, etc. at no profit.

That’s a complete perversion of what corporations were , by the way.

grue,

I see you’ve put some thought into this.

grue,

Government gets a gain from it – it gets its money sooner that way!

grue,

I feel like the space station needed its polarity reversed a lot less often than the starships did.

Lots of places have maple trees, you know. Various maple species grow all the way down to Florida, not to mention Europe and eastern Asia.

And even if you’re talking about the sugar maple specifically, most of its range is in the US, not Canada:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ab/Acer_saccharum_range_map_1.png/480px-Acer_saccharum_range_map_1.png

The only thing special about Canada is that that’s where it gets cold enough for the sap to run so it can be collected for syrup.

grue,

Frankly, ceasing to design homes and factories that way was a mistake. Stack effect ventilation is no less of an important part of green building technology today than it ever was.

grue,

There have been screenshots of pro-admin/anti-mod comments that were clearly written by chatGPT (e.g. including the "as a neural network" or whatever boilerplate). They could be fakes or false flags, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were real.

The "Lemmy is too complicated" part I can believe is organic from normie Redittors, though.
