I was the one putting the coal in the stocking this year and gifted someone a rock. It was a gag gift in a set of actual gifts, and it was on theme, but still. Gave somebody a rock for Christmas.
I have not eaten solid food since August (I live on Ensure and Gatorade) and dry heaved every morning. The latter is in the past because, after months of trying to figure out what is causing this, I had my gallbladder out last Thursday and the heaving has stopped. But I still can’t eat and almost any food smell really disgusts me.
I mean the presents were nice, but between the surgery pain, the itching from where they shaved my entire stomach, the lack of eating, the not wanting to smell any Christmas food, and the general lack of energy… it wasn’t a good Christmas.
Are you at least eating now? I had another 6-week bout of not eating earlier this year. This surgery was my last step before going to the Mayo Clinic, which will cost a huge amount of money (I’ll have to do a GoFundMe), so I really don’t want to have to do that.
My dad spent, I believe, 3-4 years where every single meal he would gagging on the food and end up throwing up. Initially, they thought it was from the severe and chronic throat infection he had and because of our health care system it took them that many years to get his tonsils removed and at least rectify the infection issue. That didn’t solve the problem though, and eventually it turned out there was damage to a nerve in his throat that was causing it and he needed another surgery to fix that.
Watched him go through hell all those years, so I definitely feel for you and hope you get this resolved!
I like cooking, so I went all out trying to cook a nice chicken dinner for me and my wife. I made stock the day before, brined a chicken, made basically everything from scratch, etc. In my haste to get everything ready, I cooked the chicken upside down. 🤦♂️
Alongside this, I have IBS, but am relatively lucky in that I can usually see the signs of when my stomach will start acting up. I’ve been planning a boxing day walk, and I’m so bloated my stomach looks bigger than my (30 weeks pregnant) wife’s. It’s gonna be a fun day…
Really sorry about the IBS. That always sucks. Re the chicken- what happens when you cook it upside-down? Isn’t meat meat? Sorry, I’m totally ignorant on this.
I cook turkey and chicken upside down. It makes the white meat much better. If you need to see the finished bird like it looks in advertisements, take it out with 15 minutes left, flip it over and pop it under the broiler.
Reddit permanently banned me because I was mocking white supremacists on a subreddit made for mocking white supremacists. That happened because one of the Nazis I posted who has a giant swastika face tattoo noticed his picture on Reddit and said on Facebook he was complaining to the admins.
So Reddit is supportive of white supremacists so fuck Reddit.
Firstly, I don’t support their views in your example.
I don’t like that they get to spread them. The same thing could be said about people who are anti religion against people talking about their religion. Both parties might say they don’t like the other spreading their views.
If someone moched a cancer patient, we’d loose our minds.
When someone mocks supremacists, we enjoy it. They don’t. The difference is our perspective.
If the mocked or bullied cancer patient contacted mods, the offending account would get banned.
If we mock one group and get banned and other mock another group and don’t, isn’t that being hypocritical?
Again, I have no sympathy for some hater crying about their feeling getting hurt when they post garbage, more pathetic than anything.
If we mock one group and get banned and other mock another group and don’t, isn’t that being hypocritical?
The cancer patient didn’t chose to have cancer, and doesn’t deliberately make the lives of other people worse. The supremacist chose to BE cancer on society, actively and deliberately making the lives of a lot of people worse, and feeling entitled to do so.
If someone acts like an asshole, they shouldn’t be surprised about being treated like an asshole.
Yeah, no doubt. I’m picturing the same person saying hateful stuff turning around saying how unfair it is to get called out, using a super whiny voice. Irony.
If you don’t see a difference between mocking people for their illness and mocking them for their anti-humanitarian views, I don’t know how to explain it to you.
Cancer patients don’t decide to have cancer. White supremacists decide to be pieces of shit. Not the same.
Also, cancer patients are not trying to eradicate human rights for everyone but themselves.
The idea behind it, making life that little bit more fair. It wouldn’t work, but as miguided as it might be, it’s born of empathy and that’s worth something.
I don’t think that socialism offers people enough incentive to innovate and improve, because it greatly limits the possible reward. I’m all in favour of regulating capitalism to protect the lower classes though, I don’t want to be enslaved by the likes of amazon either.
Capitalism is barely a few hundred years old. Invention is as old as human history. The Soviet’s despite the brutal social oppression and mass murder. Beat us at every step of the space race save for the last. Researched and discovered a number of the elements of the periodic table. And many many more things.
That you think people invent things only looking for a reward or payout. Really screams that you don’t understand inventors or invention. Nikola Tesla one of the greatest inventors of the 20th century. Died destitute chasing his inventions, with little focus on getting paid.
I could go on. But I hope reality and history generally disagreeing with you is enough to make you reevaluate the propaganda. You’ve been inundated with all your life. Capitalism does little to actually help invention. And people would do it even if they never got paid.
Capitalism was the first economic system ever devised, outside of trading without currency. We know that ancient rome was economically fundamentally capitalist, so that’s a few thousand years at least. And inventing is one thing, but inventions need to be turned into products, which then need to be manufactured and distributed and all of that. And don’t forget about the materials needed for that, which need to be mined and processed. And I can speak from my own experience when I say that if being better at work wouldn’t lead to me making more money, then I’d be slacking off as much as possible instead of being invested in getting things done.
Better work leads to better reward in capitalism, which is by far the most effective method of incetivising people to actually do any work at all. But we sure can agree that the system has been perverted out of proportion and that change needs to happen, I have no illusions about that. We just need to go back to functioning capitalism.
False. Capitalism itself grew out of mercantilism. Which itself rose out of feudalism. Markets and currency predate capitalism. 18th century philosopher Adam Smith is basically seen as the father of capitalism. And no, Rome was never capitalist. Please do some basic reading.
No, better work leads to nothing specific in capitalism. It sometimes “can”. But the fact that nearly everyone knows someone who’s failed upwards. Well everyone knows one. Donald Trump alone disproves your claim.
I’m reasonably certain you’re mixing up capitalism with a free market. Free markets are a feature of capitalism but it’s not the only system that has free markets. Socialism also has free markets.
I mean you can just say NFL in general. Ruins a good chunk of the year hearing about it during work discussions.
No, I will never care about a sport, and especially not overpaid assholes who play it for more money in a couple minutes than I will ever make in years, or more in one game than I will ever see in one place ever.
If I had a genie I would change culture so sports got moved to the same category as politics and religion so you’d never hear about it if you weren’t around scumbags.
I also don’t care in the slightest who’s winning in a huge stadium.
I’ve found that a blank stare when they get to the punch line of their dramatic sports story usually ends the whole thing. You’re meant to react big to every story, so zero reaction throws people off when they want to talk sports.
that it holds that social practices are created from social practice and not inherited from immutable law, enabling criticism of the underlying machinations of society without being hindered by the argument that such machinations are an inherited and instinctual product of nature and thus unalterable.
