The moon’s turtle is on the darkside. This is why it cannot be seen.

Joke as old as time, but it’s the fact that it’s on Lemmy that warms my heart 🥹.

paraphrand,

I haven’t heard that name in years. I miss that magazine.

Y’all. Been a reader for almost 50-years and just started Discworld last spring. Chewed up all 41 (?) books in just a couple of months.

Go. For. It.

grue,

I started in August and I’m on book 10, but that’s in part due to having to wait on library holds.

kajko,

I discovered Discworld a while ago but I hadn’t been able to stick to any of the books I tried. Last year I found the witches series and i really liked most of it, specially anything to do with granny and tiffany. I also liked a lot of things about the death series but after that I started to find much of it a bit tiring and I couldn’t get into any other book. I cannot put my finger on it, but the older the book, the harder it was.

I am still glad I discovered this world and maybe I just need to take smaller doses of it.

captainlezbian,

The older books are definitely harder and rincewind books aren’t my favorite. If you haven’t tried the guards or Industrial Revolution books you may want to give them a try. Once guards found it’s feet it was some of my favorites.

But also yeah it can require smaller doses for some people. They’re a lot and the better books are heavy.

captainlezbian,

It’s so good. I was convinced it was overhyped. I was wrong

SomeoneElse,

Nearly 40 here. Don’t like fantasy/sci-fi but I started the first discworld audiobook recently. It’s decent - I’m enjoying it far far more than I thought I would. I second the recommendation to go for it. But also don’t stick with a book you’re not enjoying just because it’s widely considered “a good book”. There are more books in the world than you could possibly read in a lifetime - life is literally too short to waste on books you think you should be reading.

I_Fart_Glitter,

There are two versions of the audio books. The newer ones by Penguin Audio are worlds better than the older ones.

Also- I’m on book 17 and most of them have been absolutely delightful. But there have been about four that I just didn’t get into. It’s not necessary to read them in order and skipping the ones you don’t enjoy doesn’t take away from the rest of the books. If there is anything you need to know from another book there is a little author’s aside that fills you in. I agree, no need to read something you aren’t enjoying.

brbposting,

While this was apparently fixed a month ago

I blocked “lemmy.world”, force quit, relaunched, verified lemmy.world was still blocked… and then found lemmy.world content on All regardless. Perhaps I misunderstand something.

Then all the furry instances would simultaneously have died

HeckGazer,

Nah it’s defo a 'shop, you can tell because the turtle isn’t standing on anything. Maybe it’s standing on something that isn’t a turtle and big globe is keeping this from us???

Mouselemming,

It’s not a standing turtle, it’s a swimming turtle. Swimming through the universe. Its name is A’Tuin.

MightyGalhupo,

It’s gender has yet to be determined

Black_Gulaman,

blahsay,

Nah only three elephants showing. If it’d been 4 elephants on the turtle’s back it’d be real though

burntbutterbiscuits,

There are four elephants one is just standing in front of the other

Ipso facto is definitely less cumbersome.

My favorite version of this is the person that you can tell is ITCHING to use that latin term they just found out about is arguing with a certified idiot. They keep dropping "argumentum ad hominem"s and "non sequitur"s at the idiot and the idiot doesn’t know what it means or care and it goes on and on and on.
