You will find “Hands” still being used as a specialty measurement of how tall a horse is. And I think they measure at the front shoulder. But that is, I think, the only time you might hear it.
For the curious, 1 Hand = 4"/~100mm For example - The mare stood 15 hands tall.
I’ll be honest, even without Trump most Americans proved they were too stupid or stubborn to follow instructions, so he didn’t really need to do anything to slap the whole US with more infections.
The problem is Trump is both the cause and the symptom of a very broken Republican party. He definitely brings out the worst in his supporters, but they also bring out the worst in him. You saw when he tried to encourage vaccines and his supporters turned on him instantly, so he had to quickly back track.
I think, like you said, the only way he can attempt to steer the MAGA-ship at this point is to offer solutions that blatantly look like he’s doing it to own the libs. He can’t say “get the vaccine because it’ll prevent you from dying.” He’d have to say, “Biden is trying to take away the beautiful vaccine I created. He wants to give it to illegal immigrants instead of hard working people like you! The deep state is trying to trick you to believe that the vaccine is poison so they can give it to their pedophile leaders so they can be safe, while you good, Christian patriots are dying.”
Unfortunately his strategy was much more cartoonishly evil. By making it so taking the pandemic seriously was a partisan issue, he could make it so people voting in person were disproportionately likely to be his base. Then set up some regulations to prevent states from counting mail in votes until in person voting is done to manufacture a narrative that they’re less legitimate and try to stop the count.
Many laptops are made with the US ANSI layout and other layouts like UK ISO are either shoehorned in at the final design stage or relegated to shuffling symbols around and requiring both Fn+Shift to type a character that used to have its own damn key. I’m not salty.
Definitions can range anywhere from “Effects a whole country” to “has spread to several large regions” to “threatens to affect the entire globe” but as a general rule the definitions shy away from saying global because then people will quibble about, like, Greenland not being effected because those bastards shut down the ports again.
So you could, for example, have a pandemic that spread through Europe and Asia but the swift and decisive actions of competent executives prevented the spread to the Americas.
Of course they are. I expect the number of furlongs in a whatsit has changed at least every week. Who could even pretend to remember the actual values?
Furlongs is a different measuring system all together. Same with miles and inches. We don’t convert between those measurements because it’s not necessary.
To add to that, US customary is a collection of measurement systems with different purposes. Most of the jokes about the US measurements are about the “silly” units like furlongs and acres and whatnot but those are either not at all part of the US customary system or are used to measure different things and are not converted between. Like, there is no reason to measure distance in inches when miles do fine. Anything using precision use a different system altogether or a variation on us customary that is often favored over metric for precision. Not that US customary is better than any other system, just it’s not really as bad as people make it out to be. It’s perfectly serviceable and changing away from it is not really the top of the priority list for this country.
Maybe a mistake NASA made 25 years ago is less influential on the ongoing crises plaguing the US like gun violence, civil and political unrest, and countless other issues are also on the list of things that need to change. Seems silly to argue about how civilians in a country weigh things when those civilians don’t have water because their government gave up on fixing the infrastructure to provide that water in several major cities. You want national change from a country that’s trying to find out if the potential next president will follow through with promises of being a dictator? Cool bro.
I haven’t been to a grocery store in many many years now. that applies to any other than convenience stores. why would you waste your time on this shit? I do have housekeeper for the same reason. and a chef for when I feel like eating at home
In 45 years living in Germany I haven’t seen once a free roaming cart in a car park, the only ones I’ve seen are abducted ones, from homeless people etc standing somewhere under a tree or shit where they can’t cause problems. Just saying.
Ditto. Unfortunately the grown up stuff is either worse quality business class hardware or ridiculously expensive boutique stuff. If you’re just looking for a case though, Phanteks makes great, mature builds
Maybe I’m just making a wrong differentiation between what I’d call business class and what I’d call enterprise class. In my comment, I was specifically picturing those garbage soft click keyboards that ship with Dell, HP, etc. Desktops
Ah right, yeah, those are crap. I really don’t get why companies are willing to cheap out specifically with keyboards.
Like, it’s the tool your workers use all day. Even if they just type 5% faster on a proper keyboard, that pays for itself in no time.
Thats silly too. Just turn off the rgb feature. I built a new pc last year, it has plenty of parts that could do the disco lighting but I turned it off on most of them, and opted for a static white glow on the keyboard. Completely fine this way
The problem is that each part manufacturer wants you to install their shitty RGB control software that is often bizarrely resource-hogging, and sometimes even used for data gathering.
On laptops, some RGB control software can eat your battery away by a fair bit because the CPU never goes into a lower power state.
RBG should A) all conform to a standardised open API, and B) be off by default.
I used to think this way as I’ve been able to touch type for a very long time but in total darkness it’s very nice to be able to find a key/orient things.
dim indirect light from behind the screen is best IMO and that’s also enough to find that rare key, as well as your drink without knocking it over and causing havoc.
Your keyboard should have two nubbins on it so you can easily find the F key without looking (it puts your hands in the home row). If your keyboard doesn’t have these, then either it’s 100 years old and someone is typing with the force of a gorilla, or you have an extremely strange keyboard.
The real tricky part are the less used symbol keys.
Yeah I dunno. They’re split in groups of four, but even when I think I’ve got it under control somehow F4 and F8 are the same. And yes. Gotta be careful not to hit enter when you mean to hit backslash.
I work on a system of cart karma. I try to use carts that are abandoned in the lot. I try to return them most times but I don’t always. As long as I put away more than I take then my contribution is net positive.
I am not sure about that. In any given grocery store parking lot, in my experience, the vast majority of our carts get returned and we have an enormous asshole population here in America. I wouldn’t say unreturned carts is a huge problem here either
