She was the sister of a friend who worked at a coffee shop I frequented. It’s not like she saw me covered in filth and randomly went out of her way, lol
Not who you're responding to, but I'll admit my mental image was something like Cricket in the later seasons of It's Always Sunny. I'm not proud of it, but I do appreciate the clarification.
Mythbusters found it makes virtually no difference, and lid down can actually make particles go further due to the pressure forcing them through a smaller gap.
Yes, I followed the ones posted. None of them say the opposite, they all leave out the results from the lidded flushes. And someone else posted a paper that showed that although lid closed produced fewer particles, they were larger, and lasted longer, so flushing lid closed was not particularly more hygienic.
I’m not sure how this qualifies as being any better, I read this one previously and found it to be lacking in actual data information. It makes claims but literally anyone can write whatever they want on the Internet. It’s not enough data and not clear on how they actually measured or how many measurements they took
Although Mythbusters is not a peer reviewed scientific source, they do employ reasonable standards of experimentation.
And the first source you posted is particularly interesting, with similar conclusions to what I remember from Mythbusters; that lids reduce the total number of particles found, but that the particles produced from lid use last longer and are larger. So a lid closed situation can;t really be said to be more hygienic.
Unfortunately on a cursory skimming of the other articles none of them seem compare toilets with lid down to lid up, they all seem to look at lidless toilets only. Thus, they can;t really speak to the topic of lid use being more hygienic without the direct comparison.
That’s specifically a USA problem only. In the rest of the world, the price you see is the price you pay (not inc. restaurant service fees, etc, which are more BS exported from the US)
There is zero reason that the price sticker on a shelf or menu shouldn’t be what you actually pay. It’s not like online shopping where they need to calculate shipping based on distance, or tax based on state of the receiver. And there is no reason they couldn’t even put both prices on the sticker.
But in America, they do it for one reason: capitalism. It’s a marketing scheme. Makes you think you’re getting a better deal and paying less while you shop, so shoppers tend to spend more.
It’s why fuel costs $2.19 ^99/100
Because that’s seen as cheaper than $2.20.
Sorry, but they’re not going to be rounding that final price down to save you 1¢.
In short: you’re as much a victim as everyone else.
Taxes don’t vary inside a store, you idiot. There are no physical stores that straddle state lines and charge you different amounts depending on which checkout you use.
I’m going to guess you’re both an idiot and you didn’t read my second paragraph where I mentioned this specifically.
Can’t tell if this is sarcasm (I’ve been on the internet too much today sorry) but just in case the Greek μ (mu) stands for “micro” since ‘m’ is already used for “milli”
yeah, i get that, but many people just use u because its more accessible (ascii and qwerty compatible), similar to writing μBittorrent as uBittorrent. imo i dont think its too big of a deal if it doesnt match the word micro, since μ is already a bit of a stretch. this is just my opinion, im not advocating for a SI reform or anything :)
μ is not a stretch at all, it’s literally the first character of the word micro. (Mu, iota, kappa, rho, omega). Similar to how other scientific words are derived from their original language.
It doesn’t matter, most people will understand you if you write um instead of μm, because it isn’t ambiguous.
“Listen up Timmy. The revolution is here for you, now are you going to be a good little comrade or will we have to educate you on proper non-wealth hoarding behavior?”
I think webp is great but every time I download a webp meme to send it to my Facebook-only friends, I have to take a screenshot of the image because for some reason messenger doesn’t recognize webp images. Like cmon Zuck why can’t you do anything good…
JPEG will never die. Too many things support it at a very basic level. A random CCD camera module on DigiKey probably has an option for direct JPEG output. An 8-bit Arduino will know how to take that JPEG and display it on a cheap 4" LCD screen off Bang Good.
Formats that sprawl everywhere like that will never, ever die.
I haven’t had an issue with webp support myself, kinda surprised to see people stating it like it happens all the time
The only tool I’ve used that didn’t support it was the FOMOD creation tool when making some small Starfield foods, and that actually DID support webp, it just threw an error but would show the image and mod managers would load it no problem
Or is this an example of the difference between people who use Linux and Windows regularly?
Wow I almost feel singled out by this. But I presume that this is supposed to be in public. Which by every account is a dick move.
However I do this in private, I.e. in my car or at home. And the reason I do it is because I can’t hear a call without using the speaker phone. Hearing issues aren’t fun.
However the easier solution is headphones, but calls over Bluetooth can make things worse, from battery life to sound quality.
Wired headphones are the preferable solution to this but we all know what happened to those.
TL:DR I do this because of my hearing issues. In public this is a dick move, but headphones aren’t the solution they use to be.
but headphones aren’t the solution they use to be.
Not true. There’s air conduction, bone conduction(which is the same technology for people who actually do experience hearing loss), wired, non wired, in ear, over ear, on ear, noise cancelling and these are not that expensive that you can get it online so it’s super accessible.
It’s not the early 2000s anymore where you only get buds or on ear or whatever apple bullshit comes with your phone.
I don’t. I’m responding to the argument that headphones are not what they used to be. that is incorrect. There is more selection and varying types should one be selecting a pair.
Agreed, though sadly this doesn’t apply to me. Hearing issues doesn’t always mean hearing loss. I have Auditory Processing Disorder or Auditory Dyslexia means my hearing is good, but I don’t always understand what people are saying.
Speaker phone makes it easier for me to understand what the other person is saying. But again its a dick move to use it in public.
And why I avoid noisy bars and stuff. I noticed once during the fire drill at work, we were all standing outside and the loud alarm was beeping like a truck backing up and the whole time I couldn’t make out what people were saying. I could hear the noises coming from their mouths, but couldn’t understand a thing.
I have noise cancelling Sony earbuds for a while now. At this point I’ve just gotten use to how people talk, and guessing at what they said and I missed.
It’s not a mandatory feature for me personally, but I absolutely prefer having an actual headphone jack and die a little inside when a new phone doesn’t
You can “get around” that by using a usb c to 3.5mm audio adaptor, or a y adaptor that’s a 3.5mm audio and another USBC to allow for charging at the same time
