Israel is missing from the picture

ArmokGoB,

Israel didn’t start the war.

febra,

Yes it did when it started the settler colonial project and ethnic cleansing campaign in 1948 and all the subsequent oppression.

DarkGamer, (edited )
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Jews started out buying the land legally until Arab nationalists started murdering them, making a one state solution impossible, then declared war on Israel when they used the UN's two state borders.

Arabs who remained peaceful and stayed behind the 48 borders were not "ethnically cleansed," and today are 20% of the citizens of Israel. Perhaps that oppression is due to constant violent attacks and a refusal to lay down arms and has nothing to do with ethnicity.

S_204,

LoL. This is just so stupid. The UN offered the Arabs the same deal. One side chose peace the other chose war.

In the 30s the Arabs were offered more than they were in 48 and didn’t want peace then.

900,000 Jews were ethnically cleansed from Arab Nations in the 40s. The Arab population in Israel has risen by tenfold since the inception of Israel. The population of Gaza has increased by a similar level.

You’ve fallen victim to Arab imperialist propaganda.

NoLifeGaming,

Hmmm yes let me take half your land then offer you a peace deal. Then claim you’re the one who’s causing the problems when you don’t take that “peace” deal. Ridiculous.

NoLifeGaming,

People like you always seem to wanna start the story at October 7th while ignoring any relevant history before it. In case you don’t know, israel and the zionist project took over Palestinian land and as a result almost a million Palestinians fleed palestine. Amongst many others who were killed. What I find interesting is that zionists in their correspondance with the British at the time is that they weren’t pressed about getting palestine to be their homeland, they were okay in finding somewhere else. One of the other possibilities was Uganda for example.

ArmokGoB,

Many, many people have been fighting over the land for thousands of years if you really want to go back. As far as I’m concerned, the land belongs to whoever can hold it.

NoLifeGaming, (edited )

Here’s a question for you, is morally okay to kill innocent children and women? Honestly the fact that you would say that tells me all I need to know about what type of person you are.

Meowoem,

If that was the qualification for losing the right to the land then the Palestinians would have lost it long ago

NoLifeGaming,

Where did I say that’s the qualification for who has the right for the land? Aren’t jewish people who emigrated there anyways from Egypt? Ill ask again, is it morally okay to kill innocent civilians? Innocent children and women?

Meowoem,

That’s such a nonsense question even before the reality that both sides are killing innocent children, the most over used meme on the internet is the trolly problem but you’re still trying to act like you’ve never heard of it. Yes, if inaction results in a worse outcome then action is permissible from a moral stand point.

  • NoLifeGaming,

The Jewish people came from Egypt no? And occupied other people’s land. And when they did take over Palestine it wasn’t in its entirety. If you count the number of years they lived there and had control over the land vs the amount they didn’t. Then you’d see the amount that they didn’t is greater than the amount they were there.

    PsychedSy,

No. They likely didn’t come from egypt.

    NoLifeGaming,

Where did they come from then?

    shadowspirit, (edited )

Yeah, so mass rape and terrorism is OK in your book if the ends justify the means? Hamas did start the conflict.

Israel was in talks with Saudi Arabia to normalize relations and Iran didn’t want that at all and they gave Hamas the green light to attack.

    usip.org/…/saudi-israel-normalization-agreement-h…

Everything that happens in that region is about Saudi Arabia and Iran.

    NoLifeGaming,

No one said its okay. You’re very good at strawmaning me. If Hamas did commit such acts then of course there should be proper justice. However, proper justice isn’t blowing up innocent people and children. Just like you don’t blow up a school when there’s a school shooter.

    shadowspirit, (edited )

Where we disagree is in saying Hamas didn’t start this current conflict. They certainly did. Has shit been going on here for millenia? of course. The “strawman” was to remind you of the fact this opened with mass rape and murder at a music festival – that’s a fact.

You seemed to argue that thousand years of history seemingly justifies that and I’m telling you that it does not. " If Hamas did "… So you’re absolute when it comes to Israel but when it comes to Hamas there’ are modifiers. Your bias is showing.

    www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67613153

    www.cnn.com/2023/12/06/middleeast/…/index.html

Israel has done plenty of things that they should not be doing. The warlike bombardment of a city is not justified and has soured world opinion against them.

    NoLifeGaming,

My “bias” is not an argument. Everyone has their biasias. The problem is that israel continues to lie on the narrative and just in this short span of time we’ve seen their lies come out. Take the “40 beheaded babies” for example. I’m open to an independent investigator.

Also it’s very rich. You really like to dig on this issue of mass killing and rape and take issue with it but don’t take issue with israel doing the same exact thing and worse back. That is a double standard hypocrisy.

Keep strawmaning me. I never said it justifies it.

Who starts with the center of a puzzle, that’s just psycho

    Michal,

How else do you start puzzle? I prefer to start at multiple points in the middle and then connect them.

    IndefiniteBen,

The “normal” way of starting a puzzle is to start with the edges. You can find the edge pieces easier due to the flat side, which makes it a good place to start when you have many pieces.

You have to spread all the pieces out when you get them out of the box, so it makes sense to separate out the edge pieces while you’re spreading and flipping pieces.

    programmer_belch,
    @programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Some puzzles have too similar edge pieces, making it difficult to get their positions right, I would guess this one doesn’t.

I usually start with easy to spot places like a cabin in a meadow as the pieces would have a different colorscheme

    originalucifer,
    @originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com avatar

i have more puzzles than i can count, and many 5k. i've never run into edge collisions that numbers so many it couldnt be resolved with other edge pieces. maybe ive just been lucky, but 'edge piece collisions' arent really an issue

i always do edges first to get an idea of dimensions, sorting all by temperature/texture/pattern (if plausible) next

    Michal,

The thing is if you start with a frame it takes up more space, and it’s more difficult to move finished portions unside. Without the constraints of the frame you are free to position your portions where you want before merging.

    IndefiniteBen,

Okay so in reality you don’t complete the entire frame before starting anything else. It may be 90% complete after initial sorting and flipping of pieces, so there are gaps in the border through which you can move finished portions.

Additionally, I would typically keep most of the unsorted pieces outside the frame and then build portions inside the frame.

My covid project was a 5000 pieces puzzle of the capilla sixtina. The first two pieces was God’s finger touching its creation… but that was pure luck. Anyway, I couldn’t get the borders till the very end.

Side note for the entusiast, a 5000 pieces puzzle means that a ~16 m2 room will be unusable for 6 to 18 months. It’s a pretty fulfilling journey

    Agent641,

Last christmas I was gifted a 5k piece pizzle of Joan of ark leading a charge of soldiers with her boobs out. Its still in the box, for now

    AscendantSquid,

This year, to save you from tears, you’ll give it to someone special?

    Siegfried,

You mean Delacroix’s liberty leading the people? I envy you, that’s a hell of a masterpiece for a puzzle. I glued my capella sistina to an MDF plate and hanged it on the wall and it really stills all the views.

My advice, wait till the right moment comes…it can get terribly frustrating at times and it’s a pretty long work. Make sure to have a big plain surface to work, keep rumba under strict control and start with the boob pop’n out, so you know what are you fighting for.

    pedalmore,

Is there some special type of 5000 piece enthusiast puzzle I haven’t heard of? A regular 5000 piece puzzle should take up one large table with a little spillover depending on style and like 50 hours of total work, so easily a month tops. I can’t imagine anyone taking 18 months.

On the other, much as I would vastly prefer if every online game was server authenticated so the client didn’t need anticheat, I understand that basically every game is a barely held together yarn ball and checking logic server-side would slow things down to an unmanageable level.

I know I’ll probably get downvoted for saying this, but the amount of hate he got for doing this was about as unwarranted as Obama’s white suit episode.

There was a government shutdown and the White House catering staff was on unpaid leave. And he was hosting a football team, not some delegation of international politicians. He basically did what anyone else would do if they have an unexpected visit and no food in the house. His guests had no complaints either, only the press hated it.

    MacNCheezus,
    @MacNCheezus@lemmy.today avatar

It wasn’t the fact that it looked good on him that he got crap for, it was the question whether it was appropriate for the occasion (a press conference discussing the potential escalation of military strikes in Syria).

Tradition demands that you wear a dark suit for something as serious as discussing the sacrifice of other people’s lives. A tan suit has more of a lighthearted vibe and is therefore something you’d wear to a festivity, not when discussing drone strikes.

    Buffaloaf,

He could’ve just as easily hired someone to cater and make good food, instead he spent $5000 on fast food because he thinks that’s what college football players prefer.

Also, Trump was the reason for the government shutdown because he wanted funding for his bullshit border wall.

    Nightwind,

Yeah you’ll get downvoted, because spending 5k on cold hamburgers from McDonald’s ist not something anybody would do. It’s something an idiot would do. Everyone with two brain cells would have started calling large restaurants or catering providers and ask them if they can make something happen.

    themeatbridge,

Any caterer or restaurant in the DC Metro area would have provided $5000 worth of food for the publicity alone.

    Coreidan,

lol imagine thinking that wearing a tan suit and serving people cold ass McDonald’s is equivalent.

Our constitution is a bunch of French philosophy shoved together into a very (for the time) unique Enlightenment-based government.
