I’m guessing that’s because the international flights that Americans use instead are from other countries that does not have first class areas, in that everyone gets the same seating and leg space.
Such a disgusting socialist ploy. The CIA should coup the pilot and copilot and divvy up the plane in “desirables” and “undesirables”, to then pin them against each other.
Alright, I will sacrifice some of my karma for this, if it helps:-).
The meme is trying to wrangle the premise that “large corporations are (most often) bad” (which ofc is true:-P) into a humorous statement that engineers in the state of Texas have limited opportunities to find jobs.
The problem is that it messes up all the details - e.g. if you have ever heard of GameStop, Dell, or Texas Instruments (just to name 3) they all have their headquarters in Texas, plus numerous top tech companies have branches there like Samsung. A 5s Google search shows many, MANY more.
For extra context: moving between states is nothing at all like moving between countries - and e.g. the state of California has a GDP comparable to Germany - plus there are many jobs in the state of Texas for both Engineers and also non-Engineers, especially if someone is willing to make less money in exchange for other QoL factors (like living closer to family?) so… in short, it is not your fault for not understanding this meme.:-)
Though there must be just enough of something in it for it to have gotten this many upvotes, in spite of all that. As someone who hasn’t lived in Texas for many years, I must be on the outside looking in now and thus don’t get it:-P.
Yes, but have you considered the free-body diagram of a rocket projectile hitting a coming into contact with a hospital? You can ignore any socially uncouth “frictions” or “resistance” involved with the calculations.
He serves “ok” quality steaks, wraps them in gold leaf and upcharges thousands of dollars. His restaurant is the equivalent of the “I Am Rich” app. One critic called the whole thing dinner theater. More money than sense is required to dine there.
To be clear, I don’t live there, nor would I. I’d still see if people are living there for lack of means to escape, or because revoking bodily autonomy isn’t important to them.
I feel like, at least in America – and it might be just my part of America – we feel like our hobbies have to make us look better. I can’t just take photos, they have to be really good photos and I should look into selling them. You can’t just like to make cakes, you have to make amazing cakes and do it for friends’ parties. There’s not enough emphasis on just do something you like because it makes you happy. This doesn’t have to be a competition. It doesn’t matter if your shit is abysmal as long as you enjoy doing it. Have fun!
i also feel a lot of peer pressure to be perfect, but this time i was feeling down because i had just restarted after taking a long break and was doing a lot worse than i used to. it’s not as if i can go back to being as good as i was without practicing though, so i just have to keep doing it and laugh a bit to feel better
I found the listing on Zillow with reverse image searching. It is a lot with two or three cabins from the mid 1930s in a wooded area right next to a 6-lane highway. Photos of the interior look meh especially for the price and the outside certainly needs love.
Ah, Oregon. I saw a listing to rent a ‘studio apartment’ with no bath or kitchen so it was literally just a bedroom for $1200 a month a couple years ago. Not even in Portland, Springfield, or Salem, but a town with a population of 10k.
The worst part of this is the HOA. Although I have to assume they are pretty hands-off if the cabin is in this state. Having someone look over your shoulder while you fix up your shack sounds terrible.
Scolding Democrats and those left of center for being incredibly unhappy with Biden’s record is not my idea of democracy. Holding to the notion that Biden is less bad than Trump is not an ethical or constructive stance. It might be true in contexts, but it invalidates materialist concerns, chills functional platform changes, negates potential new candidate selections, and stunts policy shifts to the left. This is this year’s “electability” nonsense all over again. We move right through this type of political posturing.
The game is rigged. First past the post forces this kind of devil’s bargain, and if we ran an America simulation a thousand times you’d get bored of seeing it. Additionally, neither party’s leaders will ever have any motive to accept an alternative voting system at the national level. Unless you’re advocating accelerationism (itself a deeply unethical route), it makes sense to keep playing the rigged game for now while we build a dialogue about radical reforms.
I’m middle-aged so I’ve already had more than my fair share of fun (I’m great at taking the ‘fun’ out of ‘too much fun’), but I think my warranty expired a few years ago. I got a new and exciting autoimmune disorder and this stupid meat suit is almost literally self-destructing
The diet; the microplastics that you eat, drink and breathe; the endocrine disruptors that you huff from your home’s PCB-finished wood floor, or dishwasher detergent buildup inside you; extremely hygienic environments which make for overeager immune systems; pollution; the pesticides that Monsanto assured you are totally safe and go great with their proprietary genemodded sterile cereals which they also assure are totally safe; the near-eternal organofluorides you get exposed to because there’s a chemical plant 100km upriver with a gung-ho attitude towards waste disposal, and all the slightly scratched Teflon pans you kept using because it’s fine; or the trillion other things we’re doing to fuck up just about literally everything that lives anywhere on this planet, including our own sorry asses
Yeah, honestly it’s crazy but I also understand. In Seattle there are some real dumps out there, but the dump isn’t what they’re selling for 170k. That’s just the value of the land. A townhouse on a quarter acre is 500k out here, they probably took a picture of the structure so the buyer knows they’ll have to knock it down
Edit: Lol I absolutely love them (I love old houses) but fuck HOA’s and the price. Not to mention I couldn’t see acreage listed anywhere or I could just be to stoned and missed it.
They’re condos, there is no land. The houses are cute, I’ll give you that, but these are glorified apartments. You own the inside walls of the unit you buy, that’s pretty much it.
I miss my '87 yota… 2WD long box, 5 speed hooked up to a 22r. Hands down the best $400 I ever spent honestly. It was fully painted in bed liner and had two different side mirrors, one of which disappeared while parked at a friend’s house over night, and a rusting box patched with spray foam (which always had moss growing out of it, no matter how much I cleaned or cut away). All 3 are leftist, based on rejecting individual ownership, and related to FOSS (tangentially in Star Trek’s case), and all 3 are nerdy as hell. They have a lot in common under the hood.
