missancap, in Everything I don’t like is Socialist

It’s true. Everything I don’t like is socialist. And referring to things that don’t work as socialist no matter the context is an excellent idea, I’ll be doing that from now on.

muddi,

Why would you come into a thread and enthusiastically declare yourself a dickhead weirdo

missancap,

Because I’m considering the audience. If a socialist is calling me a dickhead, then I’m probably right.

muddi,

Again, why would you say something like that in this thread/community/instance?

I’m not requesting you to answer. I’m requesting you to reconsider your approach to this scenario

No, they’re all violently discussing things, terribly defending your rights of saying your mind and defending more of those horrible things like stable families, no concentration of power and you having the control of your money instead of giving it all to the government in taxes. Meanwhile leftists are peacefully burning stuff, lovely degrading others’ properties and making those magical explicit parades in public. No, only lefties are good. Right bad.

SootySootySoot,

I already have the right to say my mind and it doesn’t help my living situation at all, meanwhile right-wingers thankfully utilise their right to call for my death, the concentration of power is all in businesses which right-wingers consistently protect, and wtf does it mean to defend stable families?

Undoing all the tax, benefits, and public services I’ve ever had wouldn’t get me out of poverty. Undoing the business and the non-worker class price gouging and manipulating of me and my family, and instead having a better incentive than profit, absolutely would.

If we ban betting on sports, they’ll just move betting to some other random indeterminate outcome. Like…which industries and markets are going to perform better than others month by month.

wildginger,

Woah woah woah, lets not get crazy, no one is trying to ban gambling! Just advertising it.

Whooo, thats a close one eh? Ban gambling. Ha! Whats next, ban cocaine?

captainlezbian,

I mean I think it should be legal. But also my main issue with legalizing cocaine is with the human suffering involved in its production. But we need to have no illusion here, gambling is an extremely addictive behavior with high destructive potential.

wildginger,

The main issue with cocaine is that its pretty addictive and absolutely wrecks your body if you do it frequently.

The growing of coca trees is only a human suffering issue because its an illicit drug. If it was legal, it would be grown like any other crop. The issues with its cultivation would be the same issues with agriculture in general.

Please don’t be offended, but maybe you just need to hang out with better memes breh 👐

Siegfried,

“Yeah, that’s the idea”

AeroLemming, (edited )

I have noticed that a lot of leftist memes are just walls of text. Right-wing memes tend to be concise and to the point, often only containing a few short words. They target very different demographics.

Edit: this was meant to roast the right for being simple-minded, but I worded it poorly.

Waldowal,
@Waldowal@lemmy.world avatar

I think the science actually supports this. Studies have shown leftists tend to be more self-critical and are concerned for the nuances - the “shades of grey”. So their memes must cover more angles of an argument to be effective. Right-wing are more black and white thinking, and don’t question themselves once they make a decision. So their meme’s are straight to the point and simple (and usually so full of logic holes and lacking in comedy that leftists say: “the right can’t meme”).

AeroLemming,

That’s what I’m saying!

residentmarchant,

I’m gonna get vilified for this, but do you mean one side makes memes with sharp commentary and the other makes memes for dumb people?

FireTower,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

I think they meant that they dont attribute either brevity to the level of not conveying a point effectively or verbosity to the point of eroding interest as being particularly good means of communication.

AeroLemming,

I mean, leftist memes are sometimes not very funny if they’re too long-winded, but I meant it as a dig at the right.

AeroLemming,

I do, yes. See edit.

0x2d,

probably because the right lack reading comprehension :)

psud,

They’re also called “step through frame bikes” in places where people don’t associate them with cycling in a skirt

m3t00,
@m3t00@lemmy.world avatar

they were girl’s bike when I was a kid, 70s. I’d ride it. heck I’d put on a skirt and ride it just to piss off the dork in the monster truck

paddytokey,

Lots of manufacturers stop calling that frame shape woman’s bikes, but rather find terms like step through or low step and so on to be better suited. This frame design is a lot more accessible for people who aren’t as mobile anymore (think old people, people with hip problems, heavy people) and are also much easier to handle with tall cargo on the back, typical example would be a child seat.

For the average person, this frame design is probably preferable as there are no benefits to the typical male frame shape.

My parents think it looks odd when a guy sits on one of these, but then my parents are in their sixties :>

leross,

Since I am a father and decided to bring my kid with me on bike rides, I needed that frame. It’s just convenient to not have to Jean Claude Van Damme before each ride.

StereoTrespasser,

I bought a step through because of the child seat too. Luckily before I dropped cash on a new bike I had already discovered that there is no way to swing your leg over the bike frame when a child seat is attached.

altima_neo,
@altima_neo@lemmy.zip avatar

I don’t understand why there’s even a difference? Seems like that frame design would work great for everyone?

pyrflie,

If you are over 200 lbs and not just street riding I would worry about the welds/supports, but for daily commuting there isn’t one.

TheSanSabaSongbird,

They were originally made so that a woman could ride a bicycle while wearing a dress or skirt.

noobnarski,

The disadvantage is higher weight for the same structural strength because the lower and upper tube are closer together (or combined into one tube) so the leverage is much less.

I dont mind the “mens” frame, but if other people want to use a low step frame I am not going to call them sissies or something stupid like that.

There should be one specific place where advertisements are allowed and contained. If you need X, go to the X page on the one place for advertising and check out your options. No more shoving things people don’t need down their throats. Make people seek out the things they need rather than be convinced they need what they don’t.

I actually don’t (well, didn’t) mind advertising, to an extent.

I liked seeing what new products or services are out there, or deals I may have not known about otherwise; but advertisers have taken it so far that you can’t have a reasonable amount anymore. You either block it all or get bombarded relentlessly.

I wouldn’t even use an ad blocker if the ads weren’t disrupting the content I’m actually here to see. YouTube for example was fine when it just had banner ads around the video player; as soon as they started forcing you to watch video ads to be able to watch the actual video you came there for is when it became a problem to me.

Gave em an inch and they took a mile. Now they get nothing.

captainlezbian,

Yeah I don’t mind phone website ads that are just in the middle of content, but no you’re playing video ads which fuck with my hearing aids while taking up a third of my screen in scrolling. Fuck you no

appel, in Everything I don’t like is Socialist

Whenever someone calls something “socialist”, ask them to explain socialism to you and watch their argument fold like a wet blanket. They usually have no idea. In fact, many would love a healthy dose of Northern European socialism in their lives, as long as you call it “Owningthelibism” or something.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

masquenox,

Not socialism.

Milk_SDF_Possum,
@Milk_SDF_Possum@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Concentration of power with those “social services”, making people pay higher taxes many times for unfair reasons. Socialism has all the power on the State with no or little room for individuals themselves to make their businesses and companies, companies that’ll thrive will be friends with the king and create a monopoly in that country. Putting everything in the hands of the State is a recipe of disaster.

christiansocialist,

Socialism has all the power on the State with no or little room for individuals themselves to make their businesses and companies, companies that’ll thrive will be friends with the king and create a monopoly in that country.

China has tons of small and big businesses and it’s still socialist.

christiansocialist,

“Bu-bu-but they’re a bunch of [insert super racist remarks about Asian ppl]”

PreachHard,

When you say “no room to make business.” That’s where I think the fundamental disagreement is rooted. Socialism is inherently built on the idea that what you are building in a capitalist system is exploiting labour. The people you bring in should have ownership of the company too in a socialist system, not the state. What you’re describing is a communist dictatorship. State programs should be run by the state just as they are in most countries now. You certainly don’t want companies running your government.

masquenox,

Putting everything in the hands of the State is a recipe of disaster.

Tell me you don’t understand what the word socialism means without telling me you don’t understand what the word socialism means.
