FeelzGoodMan420, (edited ) in This is great. You should try it.

Blue cheese is one of the most tasty cheeses. You can say I’m eating mold as many times as you want. I do not give a flying fuck. Shit is absolute S tier cheese.

Also some antibiotics are made from mold. People need to wake the fuck up and realize that blue cheese is god damn delicious.

Asafum,

Sauteed mushrooms and onions on a blackened burger with blue cheese on it is absolutely amazing and no one should deprive themselves of that lol

Smoogs,

It is one of my favourite burgers

Chriswild,

Ok real talk but cheese is made of milk and milk is made from mutated sweat glands. So we take mutant sweat and let it spoil, sift it, and press it before exposing it to mold.

I don’t know why the mold is where we draw the line if we’re drawing them. I’d be wondering why you’re constantly sticking your arm in a cow vagina to keep it pregnant or with a calf so you can harvest the nutrition sweat and let it spoil.

Zess,

The one and only time I ate blue cheese it almost made me vomit in the middle of a cafeteria. Worst food I’ve ever tasted and it’s not even close.

EpeeGnome,

Yeah, not liking blue cheese because it’s mold is just silly and mockable. Not liking it because it tastes bad to you is a legit opinion and no one should be shaming anyone for it.

Smoogs,

I’m all for a diverse palet but it’s not necessary to shame someone who knows and can understand their preferences for not liking something just like they shouldn’t shame you for liking blue cheese.

Shaming and spreading misinformation is bad faith arguing in either side.

FeelzGoodMan420, (edited )

Lol what the fuck misinformation was stated in my reply?

Also my reply was clearly half joking. You need to stop taking every god damn thing on the Internet so seriously. This was literally a post about blue cheese on a fucking meme community. Go outside and touch grass. You need it.

Smoogs,

Calm down.

FeelzGoodMan420,

Lol so is this how you operate? If someone has a response that you don’t particularly like, you wrongly accuse them of spreading misinformation and then tell them to calm down?

BCsven,

My dad loves it. For me i get an initial hint of the flavour but then my taste buds/ brain get a rotten taste (like how week old garbage bins smell). As I eat it i’m on a roller coaster of mmm, and wretch. It must be some archaic survival thing where the mold triggers danger, because I love new tastes and gravitate to things like marmite and kambucha so fermented foods aren’t an issue

edgemaster72, in I need it

That’d be awful for me, my primary use of google maps is streetview to figure out what places look like before I go there

LanternEverywhere, (edited )

You wouldn't be stuck with the fog, you would be able to toggle it on and off. The purpose is to make it obvious which areas you've already seen, so that you can know which areas of the world you still have yet to explore!

pedz,

I kind of do that but in reverse with Google Maps Timeline and Strava heat maps. I can see where I’ve been and where I haven’t been so far.

I guess if someone has their location history something like this wouldn’t be too hard to accomplish.

cryptix, (edited )

Its a nice idea , but I will hate the way these tech giants choose to implement it. 99% of implementation would need location to be tracked 24x7 and stored in their server . If someone would have a local or private way to do this , I’m exited.

codeman869,

I would normally agree with you, but I ran across the privacy policy while looking at the app. Plus it looks like you get to choose which cloud service to sync with.

HurlingDurling,

Any reason why? I’m just curious.

Also… starts playing Johnny Cash

bdonvr, (edited )

More traffic, and way less truck parking. If you’re not shut down by 4pm forget about it.

Out west I got longer loads, better views, and always somewhere to park outside of the cities. Midwest is okay but a bit boring, southeast isn’t much better than northeast.

HurlingDurling,

Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation

I’m getting to the point where I just want to read … once I get onto a site, I skip the ads and just read (most of the time I get limited ads because I have ad blocker) … but if the ads, images, display is making it hard to read, I turn on read mode and get rid of all the clutter … if the site was purposefully designed to not allow me to use read mode … turn off the tab and move along to the next link.

If the site has somehow bypassed ad block and now shows ads, floating images, floating videos, banners or other elements … if I can’t get to the content I came to see, I turn off the tab and move on to the next site. I’m no wasting my time on these dumb sites.

pennomi,

Until search engines punish shit like this it will continue to get worse. Unfortunately search engines typically also own the ad networks.

SpiderShoeCult,

add to that that google turned to crap nowadays and just pushes meaningless bot generated content in the top pages… it’s getting almost impossible to use it to find stuff. not sure about other engines because I only started recently being search-engine-curious, so no idea how they were like before

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Been using duck duck go for the last year or two. It’s maybe a little better on the bot & blog spam, but not much

Google beats DDG by a mile when you’re searching something super vague like “movie where Statue of Liberty gets slime sprayed inside”

Crazyslinkz,

Ghost busters 2?

smort,
@smort@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah that’s what I was thinking of. Is there another? lol

Vorticity,

Unfortunately search engines typically also own the ad networks.

You know, now that I think about it, that sounds like a really good reason to file an anti-trust suit. Search engines have a clear conflict of interest to prefer content that uses their ad network. Search engines should not have a preference for a particular ad network, but they almost certainly do and that harms the consumer.

Helaman,

We need to communize the internet.

Ferris,

absolutely. Since the advent of the YouTube gameplay guide, I have done my best to not touch multimedia guides and forcibly put it into text. You can even extract YouTube closed captions for accessibility reasons via hidden APIs. Give me plaintext.

Happily married but from what I’ve encountered in the wild, I wouldn’t/couldn’t do anything under 28 or so. It’s a completely different worldview.

metallic_z3r0,

FutileRecipe,

Kusimulkku,

I don’t think it really works here because the assumption was that you wouldn’t be doing anything. Pump and dump

sexual_tomato,

My wife and I tried a poly phase (neither of us ended up liking anyone else lol) and while on dating apps I found 27 to be the minimum and upper 40’s to be the max. I realized that there was no real way to connect and relate to someone in a totally different phase of life.

jubilationtcornpone,

Different phases of life, different priorities, and different perspectives. Someone in their 20’s is still trying to figure out what they want to do with their life. I’ve abandoned the search and am now stuck somewhere between raising my kids and trying to buy myself some free time before I die.

I also think you have to be friends with your spouse to have a successful marriage. Lucky for me, my wife is my best friend. It’s pretty difficult to build any sort of meaningful relationship with someone you have very little in common with.

CADmonkey, in I never learn my lesson

I have a motorcycle. It’s a Harley-Davidson. Immediately, everyone is picturing a large and unpleasant looking bearded man riding a huge, noisy, vibrating, chrome bedazzled air cooled motorcycle without a helmet from one bar to the next.

My harley makes about as much noise as a Toyota Camry. I wear full protective gear when riding it, including a bright and attention-getting helmet. It doesn’t get ridden to bars, because drinking interferes with my motorcycle addiction.

The large and unpleasant looking bearded man part is accurate, though.

Anyways safe rides dude.

Plopp,

CADmonkey,

jpreston2005,

so gay. can confirm, am half gay. reusable grocery bags is the new “wear white aasics to a planet fitness”

CADmonkey,

It has been my long-standing belief that a motorcycle helmet can prevent an accident. I’ve had too many things hit my visor while riding. Imagine taking a june bug in the eye with nothing but a set of oakleys for protection.

Saltblue,

The bug in the eye is a classic, I just wanted to feel the air on my face.

ininewcrow, in Education - It's about to get wild
@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s getting weird out there.

I deal with a few bureaucrats and office workers. Up until about a year ago, their emails were pretty simple and they sounded a lot like someone just tapped them out while on the toilet.

Now they sound robotic and machine like. Very polite, to the point, concise and very professional. A year ago these people would just ask a vague question and not really know what to say.

Now they’ve automatically become professional writers sending me a polite note.

It’s good … but it just makes me wonder where all this is going.

It’s putting lipstick on a pig … no matter how much you dress it up, it’s still a pig that likes to eat garbage and cover itself in mud.

AllonzeeLV,

As humanity has found yet another way to pass the buck, it’ll be interesting to see the diminishing returns of LLMs as they begin to feed more and more on derivative content made by LLMs.

jacksilver,

It’s interesting, because people say they can only get better, but I’m not sure that’s true. What happens when most new text data is being generated by LLMs or we accidentally start labeling images created through diffusion as real. Seems like there is a potential for these models to implode.

Ilovethebomb,

Given that people quite frequently try and present AI generated content as real, I’d say this will be a huge problem in the future.

FierySpectre,

They actually tested that, trained a model using only the outputs of the previous generation of model. It takes less iterations of that to completely lose quality than you’d think.

WarmSoda,

They go insane pretty quickly don’t they? As in it all just become a jumble.

jacksilver,

Do you have any links on that, it was something I had wanted to explore, but never had the time or money.

danielbln,

Microsoft has shown with Phi-2 (microsoft.com/…/phi-2-the-surprising-power-of-sma…) that synthetic data generation can be a great source for training data.

One of my professors, at uni, put it best. You should be able to second guess your calculator.

Also, it’s often faster to do an approximate calculation in your head, rather than getting out a calculator (or phone) and plugging the numbers in.

112 x 9.

By approximation, it’s 100ish by 10ish, so around 1000. This can often be enough. (E.g is a current below 1500mA?)

The calculator should give 1008. If it claims it is 10,080, or 12.4, you know you’ve screwed up, and should recheck your calculations. If you can’t do it in your head, then you can’t check for issues.
