My first job, I worked at a big box retail store. The guys that worked there forever and full time were still on 100% commission. Us kids/part timers made like $8/hr and also meager amounts of commission that would total anywhere between $2/hr and $12/hr during the holidays and stuff. This was back in like the mid 2000s, so it paid very well for a no-skills job! These stores phased commission out shortly after my time.
When it was slow, and Id go on break, the old guys would usually tell me to just come back to close up and punch out. I was like 17, so giving up $2/hr was not a big deal, I had like no expenses in my life but gas. Old guys made a little more on the slow days. I walked around a mall.
My only hickup is SElinux, otherwise the permission system on linux is annoying but admin friendly minus stuff like /dev/mem always being denied and libfuse understanding and miscommunicating the risks of the “allow users (with correct permissions) to access another user’s fuse partition” setting. (And its not user privicy, its DOS prevention)
tbf /dev/mem is mapped to physical memory, access to most of which is completely denied by the memory controller in the cpu (while it’s in usermode), no matter rhe access level
Pretty sure that’s Krampus. (Evil counterpart to Saint Nick in Southern German folklore, punishing bad children while Saint Nick is giving presents to the good ones.)
I’d love that kind of punishment. Be carried around in a basket and go down a slope in a sleigh, screaming with a childish glee I’ve not felt in decades.
Yo, I keep meaning to watch that clearly wack-ass Krampus movie, from a few years ago. I get the feeling it’s one of those so-bad-it-was-actually-pretty-entertaining kind of flicks.
