I propose the use of MYDYDM format. So, October 15, 2023 will be written as 121350. Just to make it as confusing as possible.

We’re also unduly forgetting about truly little endian date format: DD/MM/YYYY, for instance 52/11/3202 for this Saturday

Also we could just sort the numbers and omit leading zeroes, that way we can save some space, the same date would be 1122235

Man I hope I never end up super rich or famous because I was a loser in my youth and I don’t want anyone digging that shit up lol

Lucidlethargy,

This was from Tuesday (the comment). A 52 year old man posted that, though I use the word “man” loosely here…

shalafi,

I’m his age and may or may not have some pics like that…

petersr,

curiosityLynx,

You’d be just fine if you remain a decent human being rather than becoming an egotistical and racist pile of garbage.

Also, Musk was born rich and basically bought his fame.

cristalcommons,

i’m starting too think being rich is symptom of a mental illness in many cases.

treesquid,

It helps to not be a loser right now. Elon is in his 50s and still acts like a childish, insecure douchebag. The fact that you are able to acknowledge your previous loserdom makes you already less lame than Elon. No amount of money can make him cool because he completely refuses to ever work on himself.

How about improving existing standard implementations instead of more fragmentation?

Jamie,
@Jamie@jamie.moe avatar

Unless the original standard agrees and implements it, then you’ve just created a new standard.

orangeboats,

There are times when the original standard has zero forwards compatibility in it, such that any improvement made to it necessarily creates a new standard.

And then there’s also times when old greybeards simply disregard the improved standard because they are too used to the classic way.

Jorgelino, (edited )

I kinda like it still, because if it’s something i’m looking forward to, then i’m probably super nervous about it, so cancelling it makes me relieved i don’t have to worry about it right now. (Assuming it was just pushed further down the road rather than cancelled forever)

Like, i love DMing TTRPG games, and i hate how hard it is to schedule sessions, but at the same time, i secretly love it when a session needs to be cancelled because i’m always less prepared than i’d like to be.

Can you legally don’t give change? I don’t think you can do that in Brazil at least.

repungnant_canary,

They don’t say they won’t give change. They say that you will get as much grilled cheese as much money you give not as much you ask for.

XTornado,

Uhm if you simply deny service to those who don’t have exact amount… It’s that legal?

ZeroTHM,

I’m thinking “people with too much money” isn’t a protected class, so probably.

osmn,

That’s like, the only protected class

driving_crooner,
@driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br avatar

There’s a couple of laws I think would make that illegal on Brazil. First, you have to accept legal tender, for example you cannot have a “credit card only” policy. Second, they are laws against “married sells”, where you can’t sell items on “groups” without the possibility of them for being bought individually (like you cannot sell pizza+soda, without selling the pizza or the soda individually). Based on those I guess you cannot not accept a 5, neither force the client to buy 5 if they only want 1.

CaptnNMorgan,

But those laws don’t seem to imply that the seller can’t give 5 grilled cheeses when accepting a $5 bill. There is a possibility of buying just one grilled cheese, you give them $1. If the client chooses to produce a 5, after reading the rules, then whether they plan on eating more than one or not, it doesn’t matter.

In this situation nobody is refusing to accept legal tender nor are they attempting to make “married sells” with items that can’t be bought individually.

driving_crooner,
@driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br avatar

If I give you a 5 and want only 1 sandwich, you can’t reject my money, neither force me to buy 5 sandwiches.

CaptnNMorgan, (edited )

If you give me a 5 you are purchasing 5 sandwiches.

Edit: nobody is forcing you to hand me a 5

Would the person feel anything? Presumably the electricity would flow through the metal as path of least resistance?

mingistech,
@mingistech@lemmy.world avatar

No, 9v batteries have almost no shock to them. Put one on your tongue or lick your finger and touch the terminals. You’ll feel nothing.

Gandarf,
@Gandarf@startrek.website avatar

I mean, if you lick a 9v you definitely feel something. It’s not painful, but it’s not natural or pleasant either.

ChaoticNeutralCzech,

If those are separate pieces of metal embedded in the skin, they will feel something. If it’s just an incomplete ring, it will draw so much current that the battery voltage drops too low to feel anything but the heat.

Swarfega,

Can confirm. Used to lick them as a kid

CodyCannoli, (edited )

But it’d probably get really hot

SpaceCadet,
@SpaceCadet@feddit.nl avatar

Woosh I guess

rotopenguin,
@rotopenguin@infosec.pub avatar

Dry skin is hundreds of thousands of ohms. Even wet skin has pretty good resistance. When you touch a 9v to your tongue, you’re starting to mess around with lower resistance flesh, it is definitely not a comfortable thing to do.

The metal ring doesn’t do anything to move more electricity into your body, but it soaks every electron the battery can push and turns it into heat. Best I can figure it would amount to a few watts, which would be toasty if you were holding it between your fingers. The septum is a thin piece of flesh, I think it would sauté pretty quickly.

Lauchs,

Thank you, I appreciate the explanation. Being fairly physics ignorant I was wondering about that.

Hikermick,

Just put a 9volt in your pocket with some change

toxic_cloud,

It’s a short, the metal would heat up extremely fast and burn.

    Why would you spread incorrect information so confidently? You’re absolutely wrong. A 9 volt will get hot in a few seconds when shorted.

    Agent641,

    I used to put small coins on the terminals til they got super hot, then drop the coin on the desk in front of them. When they go to pick it up, it burns them. Peak comedy.

    IkarusHagen2,
    @IkarusHagen2@feddit.de avatar

    Put an AA battery in some aluminium foil, much can happen with even such a small battery

    CodyCannoli,

    You can start a fire with a 9v battery and some steel wool.

    Melkath,

    I mean, someone with a septum piercing could confirm this pretty fast.

    Pretty sure it would be nice and toasty inside 30 seconds.

    TrickDacy,
    @TrickDacy@lemmy.world avatar

    Yes, it would heat up. It would not be pleasant

    Melkath,

    You don't shock the person.

    You heat up the metal until it burns them.

    0ops,

    I used to burn paper with a 9 volt and a paperclip. Good times

    SaltyIceteaMaker,

    They prob wouldn’t get shocked but the ring and battery will get very hot very quick as there i pretty much no resistance wich means there is a lot of current flowing.

    Someone else in the comments claimed to have calculated a resistance of 0.2 ohms.

    I=U÷R

    9V ÷ 0.2Ω = 45A

    45 amps is a lot of current to flow through a nose ring. I don’t know how much that is in heat but i’d expect you to get burned from it

    XTL, (edited )

    You won’t get more than a few mA out of an alkaline, but heat does build up. (Internal resistance)

    A NiMH on the other and can give over 10 amps. They’re a seriously risky thing to leave around loose metal bits. Or attached to thin wires.

    captainlezbian,

    Definitely won’t get shocked. I’ve run estim through nipple piercings and no shocks

    Yeah. I mean, as an autistic man I can put myself in his shoes. People don’t really accept you and you always seem to say the wrong things or the right things at the wrong times. You want to be liked and accepted, so you accumulate wealth to try to have social standing and influence. But even as the richest man you still can’t really find your footing socially. It’s sad and I feel for the guy on some level.

    pinkdrunkenelephants,

    Okay, so let’s say I actually found the time and had the confidence in my own creativity/sense of humor to make a meme or something. What do you prolific people use?

    I don’t currently have access to a decent laptop for this purpose, so it would have to be on mobile, and every free image editor app I’ve tried is lousy at making meme images. Maybe I’m missing the obvious ones, but I could definitely use a ‘For Dummies’ tier guide to making OC.

    found the time

    Sharing links costs almost no time. Moet memes and stuff I make I just google x meme generator and there it is. It takes literally under a minute. Save to photo roll

    To upload I use Memmy, while I use Voyager to scroll through Lemmy usually. I use memmy for uploading because it offers uploading images to imgur. Since my instance doesnt allow for image upload this is a good solution.

    If I want to add text to a random image I just use whatsapp/signal to edit the image and send it to myself.

    Don’t stress too much about thinking of a good title, puns are cool but not necessary.
