The world rn

RizzRustbolt, (edited ) in Also, it's over 2 1/2 hours long.

Not even a version of Waterloo by that one Hungarian lady choir?

themeatbridge, in Thanks Shane you beautiful Irish Bard

It’s a beautiful song, and there are some versions with cleaner lyrics for the family or work Christmas party.

ininewcrow,
@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca avatar

Personally I love the original and play it proudly.

It’s a more honest depiction of human life and relationships. It’s not perfect, it’s not always happy, it’s not always pretty but in the ugliness, there’s something beautiful.

I love the Irish mind and culture … they can take the most ugly things and make them wonderful.

Rockyrikoko,

Some people choose to see the ugliness in this world, the disarray. I choose to see the beauty

themeatbridge,

I do, too, but my kids like to sing the songs they like at their elementary school, my office has an HR department, and Great Aunt Linda has flashbacks when she hears the line “You’re an old slut on junk.”

Gullible, in What a steal

I’m picturing a Halloween setup lacking any apparent decorations; a plain yard, nondescript tree, holiday agnostic yard decorations, and a peculiar patternless spotlight shining from behind the rock garden that you have to turn away from to avoid being blinded. Trick or treaters trot their way up the steps and instinctively shield their eyes from the luminous assault to continue the holiday ritual and claim their saccharine bounty. Bags slightly fuller, they turn around to notice the tree shielding them from the light, revealing the rock garden to be a lustrous hellscape of crimson, bones, and grinning mouths. Unimpressed, they continue trick or treating.

Sway_Chameleon,

Safety feature. In case of an emergency you can zip their lips.

And from whom does the moon get its light? \s

Echinoderm,

It charges up during the day like one of those glow in the dark stickers, obviously.

JaymesRS,

Reeeeaaaalllly long USB plug. Duh

jettrscga,

Hmm that can’t be it. USB cables are only supposed to be like 3m long.

The moon’s… further.

JaymesRS,

That’s what the government wants you to believe.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

I thought it was close to us.

KingJalopy,

Lepsea,

Zacryon, in I don't know how to title this

A good opportunity to learn about projectile motion.

MissJinx, in Also, it's over 2 1/2 hours long.
@MissJinx@lemmy.world avatar

I know the academy like dramas but I would rather watch a satirical biopic, “weird al” style, that a 3 hour long boring history class

Kecessa,

“history class”, the director was called out for historical inaccuracies and his reaction was “lol, I don’t give a fuck”

MissJinx,
@MissJinx@lemmy.world avatar

Even wrost! A boring bad history class

jmcs,

Not giving a fuck would be a valid attitude if the inaccuracies made a better movie. Judging by the reviews, it didn’t.

Chickenstalker,

Imagine if a French director made a movie about Queen Elizabeth II but made a her a slutty party girl who fucked Prime Ministers on the side. Anglos are masters of slander.

gmtom,

So an accurate biopic on the life of Big Liz then?

DragonTypeWyvern, (edited )

I mean, Napoleon was a bit of a whore, it’s a fact.

Also had a thing for milfs.

joneskind,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

Also had a thing for milfs.

Joséphine was 6 years older than Napoleon. Yet Ridley Scott managed to cast an actress 14 years younger than Joaquin Phoenix to play her role.

clay_pidgin,

I’m really pulling down the average.

Zehzin, in THE DAY HATH COME
@Zehzin@lemmy.world avatar

No Thatcher? Come on, OP

Wait nvm she’s behind adolf

DJDarren,

Thatcher was responsible for many societal ills, but she did at least provide a public, gender neutral toilet for all to use.

tubaruco, in THE DAY HATH COME

who is kissinger and why are all memes about him

Deuces,

He was the US secretary of state in the 1970s who finally died today after far too long living free. The 3 page rolling stone article is about as quickly as somebody could summarize his more notable war crimes. Admittedly the article is pretty biased, but also fuck hearing the other side of the story about a man responsible for so much death and pain.

Tldr: he extended the Vietnam war for about 5 years because it benefited him personally, he convinced Nixon to bomb Cambodia and laos which were not involved in any combat with us, he was involved in the coups that overthrew the democraticly elected governments of Peru and Argentina, he encouraged the use of nuclear bombs in battle on numerous occasions, and that’s just for starts. The rolling stone article claims he is indirecty responsible for about 4 million deaths. They don’t list the directly responsible number, but its likely in the one million range.

x4740N, (edited )
@x4740N@lemmy.world avatar

He committed war crimes and there are still people who look up to him

I don’t know how in the fuck people can look up to a war criminal

Society is fucked

I’ve already had to unfollow this account on Instagram

bort,

Also the entire “terrorists in the middle east” thing is on him.

kboy101222,

Ehhh that’s kind of a stretch. Blaming all the shit in the middle east on one person or country really ignores the century+ of bullshit western powers enacted on that region

bort,

There’s much more to this ugly story, all available at your local library. It can’t be said to be the worst thing that Kissinger ever did — but as you remember the extraordinary bill of indictment for him, make sure to leave a little room for it.

theintercept.com/…/henry-kissinger-israel-egypt-s…

Kissinger was deemed a controversial figure in the Arab world for his role in shaping US foreign policy, particularly towards the Middle East. For many, his actions fuelled instability, favoured strategic interests over moral principles and left a legacy of geopolitical manoeuvring at the expense of justice and human rights.

newarab.com/…/why-was-henry-kissinger-hated-arab-…

You are right, that it is not on him alone. But he still played a significant role

kboy101222,

Oh yeah, he’s a massive chunk of the reason that almost everything is as fucked today as it is, I just think trying to pick a singular villain to blame any thing this big on ignores the systemic issues spanning decades that enables this

pudcollar,
Chakravanti, (edited ) in Hey, Asimov. Bite me.

I think he would bite. Mostly because all humans will die before AI gets strong enough to do anything about anything.
